Let me ask you something, are you feeling a little tug at your soul? Kind of like a little tap on the shoulder from a long-lost friend that’s back in town and wants to catch up and maybe even offer you a cool new opportunity?
If so, let me validate that feeling. It’s real, and you should probably listen.
A cling to the past or an opening to the future?
Experiencing this feeling at the precipice of a new season isn’t surprising, right? I mean, the weather is getting warmer, we are being “pulled” lots of places, especially outside of our winter cocoons.
And while spring is certainly offering us an extra boost of energy, it might be wise to do a bit of exploration and open yourself up to the possibility that there could be more going on.
If you are feeling this little pull, it doesn’t necessarily mean that a big, huge life shake up is about to occur. While it may be time for something big, it’s really about your soul/spirit/inner self wanting to have a chat. One that, let’s face it, you’ve probably been ignoring.
Sometimes we get too focused on our external life, what’s going on around us—external forces that govern our lives from work, to family, to global crises—that we forget that we have needs too. Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. And sometimes that little tug is saying it’s time to release old habits, old mindsets, old judgements and open yourself up to exactly what it is that you need…now. Which may be different than what you needed 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years ago.
You may find that you’re feeling guided to rest and reset. You may feel guided to work harder and bring your creative ideas to life. You may feel guided to invite more play and passion into your life. You may feel guided to move in a completely different direction.
Moving forward
If you feel like something is missing, or feel you are on the precipice of something big and huge, all you have to do is turn your internal volume up and the external volume down.
When you tune into your internal world more and the external world less, you get the clarity you’re looking for. If you’re wondering how to turn up the internal volume here are a few suggestions:
- Meditation– Your meditation practice can be a moving meditation, guided meditation, group meditation or meditation in silence. The idea is to build the skill of awareness and presence. If you align with religious practices, you can think of prayer as talking to God and meditation as listening.
- Creating– Coloring, sculpting, creating music, writing, drawing, painting, cooking, the list goes on and on here. Connecting with your inner creative is a way of having a conversation with your inner self.
- Reducing noise– Find time to just be silent. Turn off the tv, the radio, find a place away from others and give your ears and nervous system a break.
- Reducing external input– Going further, do what you can to lessen the input of external “data” into your field. Lessen how much news you watch, how much you gossip, how much you are on social media. Reduce the things that bring in unnecessary thoughts, feelings, and judgements into your psyche.
You know, sometimes all you’re missing is you. Take time to get reacquainted with yourself and I guarantee you will feel fulfilled, peaceful and purposeful.
