Don’t get me wrong, high self-esteem is wonderful, but it must be balanced with humility. Self-awareness encourages knowledge of your strengths AND weaknesses, and we all have them. Yes, we ALL have weaknesses.
Understanding your flaws and sensitivities releases their power and facilitates real confidence. It also fosters connection with others.
As you come to terms with your weaknesses and sensitivities, you can bravely seek out people who’s strengths are your weaknesses. Individuals that can help you improve and grow in the areas in which you struggle or take on work that fits their skill set better than yours.
This results in:
1. Released shame, guilt and fear surrounding your shortcomings
2. Two people that are excited to do what they’re good at, allowing both parties to feel powerful, strong and purposeful
3. Creation of a connection/bond between two people because you are simultaneously taking care of each other (handling each other’s weaknesses) and feeling powerful together (using strengths and seeing each other how you want to be seen)
4. Higher quality work as it is being generated from a place of strength, enjoyment and empowerment
The bottom line, it’s important to get clear on your strengths and weaknesses and be honest about them. We fear rejection and being taken advantage of by others, but the truth is, most of us want to help. Think about it, when someone is struggling, what is your first response, to help them or to take advantage of them? Others want to help you too.
We are all in this together, and we all want to feel useful. Focus on your strengths and give others the opportunity to focus on theirs as well.
What do you think?
